What is Chickenpox?
Chickenpox is a highly contagious viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus, most common in children.
Common Symptoms of Chickenpox
- Itchy rash with blisters
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Loss of appetite
- Headache
Ayurvedic Perspective on Chickenpox
Classical Ayurveda describes eruptive fevers like chickenpox under Masurika, associated with combined Pitta-Kapha vitiation affecting Rakta and Mamsa Dhatu (blood and muscle tissue).
Ayurvedic Lifestyle & Supportive Care
- Keep the skin clean; a lukewarm neem-leaf bath is a traditional practice believed to soothe itching and support skin healing.
- Keep nails trimmed and discourage scratching to prevent scarring and secondary infection.
- Offer light, cooling foods and plenty of fluids.
- Isolate the person until all blisters have crusted over, to prevent spreading the infection.
When to Seek Immediate Medical Help
⚠️ Medical Emergency: Chickenpox is usually mild in healthy children but can be more serious in adults, pregnant women, newborns, and people with weak immunity. Consult a doctor promptly in these groups, or if fever is very high or blisters appear infected. Do not delay or substitute emergency medical care with home remedies.
