What is Dengue Fever?
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, common during and after the monsoon season.
Common Symptoms of Dengue Fever
- High fever
- Severe joint and muscle pain
- Skin rash
- Low platelet count
- Fatigue
Ayurvedic Perspective on Dengue Fever
Dengue’s high fever and body pain are associated in Ayurveda with aggravated Pitta dosha, with Rakta Dhatu (blood tissue) involvement reflected in falling platelet counts.
Ayurvedic Lifestyle & Supportive Care
- Focus on hydration — coconut water, ORS, and warm fluids through the day.
- Papaya leaf extract is a well-known traditional remedy in India, though it should only be used alongside — never instead of — medical monitoring of platelet counts.
- Eat light, nourishing food such as khichdi, and avoid oily or spicy food that can aggravate Pitta.
- Complete rest is essential during the fever phase.
When to Seek Immediate Medical Help
⚠️ Medical Emergency: Dengue can progress to severe/haemorrhagic dengue, which is life-threatening. Get your platelet count monitored by a doctor, and seek immediate hospital care if you notice bleeding gums, severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or breathing difficulty. Do not delay or substitute emergency medical care with home remedies.
