Tuberculosis (TB): Causes, Symptoms and Ayurvedic Care Explained - Guruji Dr. Govind

Definition of Tuberculosis (TB)

Tuberculosis is a contagious disease caused by bacteria known as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It primarily affects the lungs and is transmitted via tiny air droplets expelled from the infected individual.

  • Common Symptoms of Tuberculosis (TB)
  • Cough lasting more than 3 weeks
  • Blood in sputum
  • Night Sweats
  • Weight Loss
  • Fatigue

Ayurvedic Concept of Tuberculosis (TB)

According to the classical Ayurvedic literature, the condition is known as ‘Rajayakshma’ which is due to depletion of dhatus (tissues) and poor Ojas (immune power), thus it is relevant to understand that profound fatigue and loss of strength is associated with tuberculosis.

Supportive Care for TB

The cure of TB is a completely curable disease with adequate consumption of the prescribed antibiotic against Tuberculosis. The role of Ayurveda here is supportive only.
A nourishing and protein and caloric based Rasayana-based diet will be helpful to regain strength.
Rest, sun exposure and reduced stress levels are all important aspects of recovery process.
Once the medical treatment is completed, Rasayana treatment will be helpful for regaining strength and building up the immune system.
Emergency Conditions Requiring Instant Medical Care

🚨Medical emergency – TB needs to be treated with the full course of antibiotics prescribed by the doctors in case of DOTS therapy. Discontinuing the course of drugs prematurely may result in multi-drug resistant TB which is dangerous. Please do not stop your prescribed course of antibiotics, even when undergoing supportive Ayurveda treatment.
